Yes, we have discussed this before.

I have recognized the contradiction you mention, as well. It's the same problem I have when I consider my being tolerant of everything but intolerance. Those kinds of questions do tend to tie one up in knots when approached from a philosophical perspective.

When approached from a practical perspective, though, I don't think we have any choice but to favor what the article called the absolute truth of the dignity of man and freedom at the expense of competing absolute religious truths if we're to get along in this world. I understand that some of us consider this world just a staging area and test bed for the next life and, therefore, don't care if we all get along. As someone who cares about this life, I have no choice but to call them the "bad guys."
