Every tax increase is another encroachment on the rights of the US by the hand of those in power.

Liberal government results - California is arguably the wealthiest state in the U.S., with one of the highest tax rates (if not the highest) in the U.S. Approx. 10% state income tax, 8% sales tax, huge gasoline tax (resulting in some of the highest gasoline prices in the U.S.).

The results - Our roads are now ranked LAST in the entire nation. I believe that our education system is ranked near the bottom also.

What are the benefits of LIBERAL politics iyo?

Kind of appalled to see a Learning channel show on SF cops acknowledging that it is ok to shoot heroin on the streets and rob people and businesses with NO PENALTY.

Again, what are the benefits? The results are obvious for all to see, but you are so proudly liberal that I thought you might be able to iluminate some of the positives that I cannot seem to find.

The Constitution and Bill of Rights were written over 200 years ago. If age is sufficient reason for abandoning principles, then I suppose they shall have to go too.

Bad news for CA Dems:

Most prefer cutbacks to higher taxes
Poll also shows deep distrust of politicians

Mark Martin, Chronicle Sacramento Bureau Friday, December 28, 2001

Sacramento -- Californians would rather cut spending than raise taxes to solve the state's budget problems, according to a new poll.

Twice as many people support shrinking the state budget to erase an expected $12 billion deficit rather than increasing taxes, according to a statewide Field Poll. But there isn't consensus on what programs should be cut,

and few of those surveyed expressed great confidence in political leaders to properly handle the budget.

"The public is largely cynical about all politicians," said Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll. "They don't think the politics of tough choices will be met with the highest ethical standards. They're saying it won't be pretty."

Statewide, only 10 percent of those polled said they felt a great deal of confidence in Gov. Gray Davis' ability to handle the crisis, although 44 percent said they had some confidence in the governor. Only 8 percent said they had a great deal of confidence in the Legislature, while 53 percent said they had some confidence in lawmakers. Among Democrats, 65 percent said they felt some or a great deal of confidence in Davis, a Democrat, with only 36 percent of Republicans saying the same thing....
