Liberal government in Washington State but no state income tax - one of the few with no state income tax. All statewide elected officials are Democrats except for Secretary of State. Both houses of the state legislature have Democrats in the majority. We have the highest unemployment rate in the country right now. I like all the west coast states because of their liberal politics. Many wealthy people like the liberal west coast, as well. One of the benefits is a great public University system.

Our current Gov is a Democrat however he was preceded by two, two term Republican Governors. Our State legislature is now Democratic but it recently changed from a Republican majority. There are pockets of very conservative people in this state. The central valley is highly conservative. TO say the state is the result of liberal politics is not to understand the true history of Ca. Have you ever driven through the central valley and tried to get a liberal radio show on your car radio??? SF and the surrounding areas tend to be liberal. Areas like Palo Alto ( not east PA ) have a top notch education system. WHere the money is so goes the quality of the education. A friend of mine just accepted a job teaching in Nevada which is a very conservative state. Her class has two kids out of thirty two that have fathers in the home. Is that the cause of conservatism? I would think there are many other factors that have influenced that abysmal statistic. One of her students shows up at 7:00am because her mother always has a "date" at that time of the morning........she is probably a prostitute!! Again, many factors other than politics have influenced the state. What i am saying here is that all the problems in this state are not collectively the result of liberalism ..........mainly because this state has not been liberal for 100% of the last 25 years. DOn't you remember Ronald Reagan was a two term Gov? We elect all kinds of animals here..LOL I work in the field of science and I am currently working with people from the following countries: India, Pakistan ( we keep them separate..LOL), Burma, Phillipines, Vietnamn, Taiwan, mainland China ( we keep those two separate also..LOL), Czechoslovakia, England, Italy, Finland, Japan and Australia and Mexico..............those I can think of but it may not be all the represented countries. Pot luck lunches are great with all the diversity. The individuals I work with are highly educated and skilled. The benefits of a Democratic agenda is that it tends to help more people make more money, so more people have more money to spend on goods and services. Also, the protection of civil liberties is a key part of the Democratic agenda which is critical to our country's Constitution. Our founding fathers were probably the first radical liberals who walked the ground this country stands on. They wrote the Constitution to protect the rights of everyone to worship, speak and write by personal choice. THe protection of those rights is critical to the future of the US. The benefits of liberalism is that the beliefs of our founding fathers are upheld. Pat Pat
