Hi JDN, it seems Ken would rather toss them on the street and put them on welfare, instead of recognizing their experience, training, and past performance on the job.

Typical limousine liberal elitist view of people. You're nothing but scum unless you have a high school education.

One thing I've learned throughout my years in the military is never judge a book by its cover. One of my close associates came from a foster-child background who was shuffled from home to home as a young man. Consequently, he never received a high school diploma. He's now one of the sharpest sonarmen I've ever seen, a superb leader, and a real mentor for some of the most complex assignments.

These kind of people exist by the thousands in the military, oftentimes receiving their GED well later in life. They also exist in places like the local car repair shop, where they work on some of the most complex engines of today. They work as buss drivers, truck drivers, and a thousand other occupations far more complex and demanding then airport baggage screener.

Having said this, in no way means I don't see value in obtaining a high school diploma. It simply means people are individuals and can rise to the challenge from a variety of backgrounds.

Seems to me, if I were hiring for airport screeners, tapping into a police background would be a good idea. Some cops who get injured on the job and may be forced to retire early, might enjoy working part-time as an airport screener. Street smarts, by looking someone in the eye and asking a couple of questions, can be an extremely effective method of catching criminals.
