(15:30) Palestinians hold rowdy Gaza City funerals

Palestinians took to the streets for noisy rallies and a mass funeral today to bury those killed yesterday by Israeli troops.

Security forces killed six terrorists in two separate infiltration attempts in the northern Gaza Strip last night.

Three Palestinians, armed with rifles and explosive belts, were killed trying to slip through the security fence that separates the strip from Israel. Three others were killed about two hours earlier by tank fire as they moved near Elei Sinai, the IDF Spokesman said.

"During these difficult times we are living in, our people are still fighting against all the Israeli challenges," Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat told a cheering crowd of 6,000 in the West Bank town of Ramallah . "We are the strong people. The Palestinian flag will be flown above the walls of Jerusalem."

"Long live Arafat," the crowd chanted, waving posters of the Palestinian leader.

The crowds were in a feisty mood today at Ramallah and in Gaza City, where rallies were held to mark the 37th anniversary of the founding of Arafat's Fatah movement.

At a funeral for three Palestinians killed Sunday, mourners at the Jabaliya refugee camp just outside Gaza City chanted, "revenge, revenge," and dozens of gunmen fired into the air.

"We will continue the process of holy war and resistance until we liberate Jerusalem," one funeral organizer said by loudspeaker as he traveled in the funeral procession in a van.

The dead included Ismail Abu al-Qumsan, a prominent activist and a leader of the Popular Resistance Committee, which is made up of various Palestinian organizations, including Arafat's Fatah movement.
