"There are plenty of things outside of technology to distinguish our economy from other countries. The entrepreneur survives and thrives in our economy. That stimulates innovation and keeps the economy going. That innovation is not isolated in the technology sector. That innovative mind can thrive and succeed in Bentonville, Arkansas just as easily as it can in Santa Clara, California."

Interesting idea. Could you give us some examples
please?

GVTucker, Re: "I'm not saying that the tech industry is going to collapse further from here. I am saying that our economy could handle a collapse of the tech sector and still be ok."

If the tech sector were to collapse, something else would have to fill the vacuum. What would it be? Is the U.S. ready to depend on something other than tech? I understand your example of oil and gas prices. The rise and death of the railroads would have been another historical point to add. What makes you think, though, that "tech" can follow the same pattern? Is there any kind of nebulous entity that can follow after "tech"?
