Let's see: That is like saying that because Stalin participated in World War II, it was not worth fighting. It is also like saying that because France aided the United States, the American Revolution was just a "turf war between two imperial powers". Not very deep analysis.......

You must be living in a parallel universe.

In the one the rest of us live in, America in the past century single-handedly ended imperialism throughout the world. We saved the free world in WW II, releasing subjugated countries In Europe and Asia from domination by Germany and Japan.. In the peace that followed, we denied to Britain and France their colonial empires in Africa and Asia. We then brought the Cold War to an end by freeing Eastern European countries from Russian police-state control. In both World Wars in this century America fought for freedom on foreign soil, suffered heavy casualties, and then became the only victorious nation in history to ask for not an acre of territory in repayment for our losses. Indeed, after WW II, America spent $100 billion of its own money to rebuild the countries we had defeated.

And you dare to call the United States "an imperialist nation?"

Learn your history, bud.

Neo, and JC pretty much already covered my answer.

Osama Bin Laden fought on our side against the Soviets who where an imperial power. Our fight was to prevent imperial control of Afghanistan. We made no effort to control the country ourselves after the Soviet Union left. As Neo posted we where allied with Stalin against Hitler. Stalin caused more death and suffering then OBL ever has or will. That doesn't mean we were responsible for all of his subsequent oppression and aggression.

Also we never backed bin Laden but even if we had it would not change things too much. We send aid to the Soviets during WWII. OBL had his own resources and we had a shared enemy.
