"Merrill prefers stocks that ... have strong balance sheets"

Now that Henry Blodget has departed? How reassuring.

I wonder whether Merrill called the bottom in the oil sector after it cut its oil price forecast.

Did anyone risk buying HAL earlier today in the midst of rumors (that the company has denied)? From a Reuters story:

"'There is no basis to the spurious rumor that (Halliburton) has filed for bankruptcy or that such a filing is contemplated,' the company said in a statement."

HAL's at a 15-year low today.
