Hi guys/gals,

Anybody have ever had this e-mail connection problem?

I have a Dell desktop running Windows ME hooked to Roadrunner. I use IE 5.5 and Outlook Express 5.5.

The e-mail connection problem occurs AFTER my computer has gone into stand-by mode and I re-activate the system. When I try to check email, I cant. It consistently times out. Of course, I can restart the system and all is fine. So, my suspicion is that I'm getting packet trash in some transmit buffer if such a thing exists.

Any ideas on how to fix this short of restarting everytime?

BTW, after re-activating I can bring up web pages but sometimes this requires a single click and then a refresh, but the email server will never connect.

Thanks,

Stephen

Those steps he shows just delete any reference to the hidden files.

I use bcwipe. It's suppose to not only wipe out the reference to files but the files themselves.

bcwipe.com

It takes all night to completely wipe the average HD.

bd,

Here's another opinion about find fast....I deleted it a couple of years ago using the method described in this article. Seems to have gotten rid of it as far as I can tell. No harmful affects.

bosquedog,

I wonder how much is true?

I think all of it is true, though there may be some details that are not quite right. My impression is that IE6 does a better job than IE5 of eliminating cookies and URL histories. As I noted in previous message, I have made it a practice to delete all those cryptic folders and desktop.ini files created in the Temporary Internet Files folders, and I disabled the startup of FindFast a long time ago.
