He wants proof.
I see 10K 20K 30K bids below the current bid vanish into thin air as soon as the the position above is sold.
This happens all the time.
How can one person not see this as a "phantom bid".

No one wanted to buy 10K 20K 30K or whatever.
Thus it is
1) pure noise as a matter of practice
2) Intent to deceive

In any case it is a phantom bid as they come in and go in seconds (usually) but sometimes they last until supply above is worked off, and only then does the bid disappear.
These "bids" are never supported by time & sales. Thus they are there for "appearance" only.

Even if it is "noise", I contend that #2 is the correct answer. Because when they do put up 30K and mean it, you do not know if it is real or not (at least until it sticks on the top bid/ask).

Finally I sure understand his point fully: why would the MMs want to do this anyway?
Yep, let's let the public know just how much of stock XYZ we really have to unload to some sucker. No reason at all we would care if someone knew. None whatsoever Sun-Tzu.

I guess we are both blind and are imagining this.
After all: I have no "PROOF", do you? If you can not prove it and I can not prove it we must be liars or idiots or both.
