I found none that either didn't have a full retest or at a minimum a 50% retracement.

May I suggest a possible solution to your missing double bottom? I'd appreciate constructive criticism on this hypothesis:

On Sept.11 we had what the market considers a "disaster". The results in the market were exactly as expected for a disaster. That is a quick drop and quick recovery forming a V shape. This also forced a market possibly at the second of a double bottom down further.
Now if you were to ignore everything below the Sept.10th low as a disaster; We have just about a perfect double bottom from the April 4th bottom to the Sept 10th bottom.

of course, one could argue that the sample size is too small to hold one to the above observation.

Thanks for the historical charts.

Only needed to look at the date on that Roque article.

Not sure if I was totally convinced of a bottom at that time either- It was written only 2 days after the bottom.

This bottom so far looks like the 1966 one most, IMO. I know it takes a leap of faith to buy into a market with poor fundamentals- but the internal action, time factors, liquidity, and historical precedent are all consistant with previous cyclical bottoms.

Determining the point you are in the market cycle is what Technical Analysis is all about for me. Trading, OTOH is a different problem to solve altogether. It takes a certain amount of faith, in addition to experience to buy into a scary market. That is how the big $ are made, however. And sometimes lost. <g>

BTW- How about that bottom in 1935. sharelynx.net

Not even a minor sell off all the way to the top 2 yrs later. Odd, eh? But it did follow a very odd period in market history, the last big market bubble.

Getting our 1st snowfall of the season today here in S. Ind. Beautiful.
