BMW's run on gas like all other cars. Just imagine if they had thier own proprietary fuel, and you had to drive across town to get filled up.

Naw they need a low end model.

The analogy doesn't hold water. True, BMW does fine by concentrating on the upscale market. But a fundamental difference between the auto market and the PC market is that it's very easy for an auto user to upgrade from a cheap car to a luxury car. It's very difficult for a computer user to throw away all of his applications, incompatible peripherals, and hard-earned experience, and go to an entirely different operating system.

Apple's continued survival depends attracting first-time computer buyers and Windows expatriots. How many of these people are going to choose a $1300 iMac over a $700 PC?
