wbmw, I don't know how you get the free time to do all this % work but thanks. Yes, I agree about the 2% margin of error and I might even up it to 3%. I would consider this round a draw. I concede that the potential for the winner in 2002 is on Intel's side since the P4 should outscale the XP but if T'bred comes out on time ( and maybe with some improvements since I don't think that AMD will rely on just shrinking the Pally ) the P4 will have problems. When do you see another version of the P4 coming out?

AMD's already stated that T-bred is a dumb shrink... when and if it shows up. Barton may have some design changes as they'd have to do a some amount of redesign to handle the floating body effects in SOI. Of course, that's not going to be around until Q3-ish... I'm betting volume won't be around until Q4. I also don't see AMD getting much past 1.8GHz on a bulk 0.13 micron process (hence the reason they're forced to move to SOI). Intel will take the P4 to at least 3.0GHz on 0.13 micron bulk.

As to when the next revision of the P4 will be out... I think it will coincide with the introduction of the 90nm process, which Barrett said would happen Q1 of 2003. Whether it's a minor revision of Northwood or the launch of Prescott remains to be seen. If I were Intel, I'd at least have the internal goal of getting Prescott out...

Constantine, Re: "I don't know how you get the free time to do all this % work but thanks."

I'm handy with a calculator.

Re: "When do you see another version of the P4 coming out?"

Not this year, but certainly some time next year.
