Freep, I guess when I think of people buying the dips, I think of 1999 and 2000, when day-traders plunged in a bought anytime a stock dropped during the day. My view of buying the dips is mindless buying by non-professionals without regard to technical or fundamental analysis. I may be a bit harsh, however.

I believe many of the buyers on these dips have been hedge funds and program triggered traders. I guess I don't consider them people. I hope I did not insult Hal and Al <G>.

Freep,
What do think of this guidance from Altera. The book to bill over 1 in November and December is a key. This is very big news in the communication chip business when coupled with the Corning opening 4 plants worldwide. It adds more weight on the recovery scenario in the sector.

The telecom equipment suppliers/communication chip companies/networkers and possibly even optical stocks could outperform the rest of the broader tech sector.

To me this story on Altera will make many re-think their opinion on the Nortel, CSCO, TLABs, ALA, Marconis of the world--considering how beat up many of them are. Would be interesting in your thoughts on this.

Going to listen their conference call this evening.
