Kevin -

Mr. Lubbers has some good points.

Personally I think the story in The Street was an example of a rather typical shoddy hatchet job. Lots of implications and dire predictions based on hypothetical scenarios, made to look more credible by the inclusion of some math. However, since the math is based on suppositions, not on actual evidence, it's just as meaningless as the rest of the article.

It's like telling a frightened child, "If that light bulb burns out, it will be dark in here." The statement may be true, but unless you know what kind of shape the bulb is actually in, it's just blather.

I'm not saying I think Conseco is in great shape, nor that I think it isn't fair to consider the very real problems confronting them. But The Street made similar predictions last year, and despite the deterioration of the general economy, Conseco did not fold in 2001.

CNC is going to have to sue somebody and some pimp firm soon. This sort of thing has been going on for 2 years now. And shows no signs of stopping no matter what CNC does to improve itself.

In fact a lot of companies are going to have to do something similar. Certain pimps and certain media rags have far exceeded the good sense barrier for a long time.
