Peter - You posted According to Intel’s distributors, Intel manufactured more than 12 million Socket 423 and Socket 478 P4 processors in the fourth quarter of 2001

12+ million Pentium 4's in Q4 of 2001 is about 3 times the number of Athlons that AMD produced in the same quarter - about 4 million.
I thought the geniuses on this thread said nobody wanted the Pentium 4, Intel couldn't produce the Pentium 4, etc.
Looks like a reality check for some of you guys.
Monica

Re:<P4 motherboard shipments to fall 20% short of targets due to chip shortage>

Thanks, peter. If the P4 chip shortage were due to greater than expected demand, P4 motherboard sales would be equal or higher than any targets that the manufacturers may have had.

This is one of the only indications that the problem is not excess demand for P4's, it is LOWER THAN EXPECTED SUPPLY OF P4's, or possibly even LOWER THEN EXPECTED DEMAND.

Of course, the article only says that January and February P4 mobo output will not meet targets, so any lack of P4's could be due to the 0.18 to 0.13 switchover and initial lower yields.
