It depends on the implementation by the carrier. There is nothing stopping SMS or MMS being transmitted from a GSM network to a CDMA network. The CDMA network just needs to implement the correct standards (and in the case of MMS actually create the CDMA version of the standard). I-mode is a different case since it is a closed system. You need an i-mode phone to access those sites. BREW will also be more of a closed system.

It seems to me that much of the GSM world is going to push Java for their wireless applications. This should be usable across any network...
