Intel isn't losing money on products they are selling.

Overall no, but I would be surprised if there was not some small product lines that they did not lose money on. I can't see how they have made money on the Itanium considering how low sales have been. Of course its possible they will make all the money back and more with sales of later generation IA64 chips.

They lose money on projects that never turn into products.

I wonder how many projects like this are ongoing at Intel.
