Neal: Wonderful post

The first step to market share is mind share. And until Apple gets people thinking about buying a Mac, most just plain aren't going to do it.

iPod as a Mac-only item, plus Apple Stores, are a good start, but I also I think there's more to come.

Some might say that Apple should switch over to making gadgety items like iPod entirely, and to make 'em for Windows, too. But that hasn't exactly worked out well over the long term for any other company that's tried it, though Palm had a nice couple of years. And Apple is making good money with their existing strategy, so I don't think it's something they should even consider except as a Plan B.

I think Apple's goal is to have something more than a nice couple of years, myself. Let somebody else make iPod for Windows software ... Apple will be happy to sell the hardware to go with it.

Buona fortuna
