Do read some reputable historians, please! Just for a quick example, let's examine Thomas' supposedly unfindable quotes about driving the Jews into the sea. In May 1948, shortly before six Arab armies invaded Palestine, Azzam Pasha, Secretary-General of the Arab League said, "This will be a war of extermination and a momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and the Crusades." (Isi Leibler, The Case For Israel, (Australia: The Globe Press, 1972), p. 15.) Sounds pretty decisive to me. I liked the claim of an unidentified Arab leader in the 60's even better. Can we say Gamal Abdel Nasser, President of Egypt? On on the 26th of May, President Nasser of Egypt declared in a speech, "Our basic goal is the destruction of Israel. The Arab people want to fight.... The mining of Sharm El Sheik is a confrontation with Israel". (ibid p60) BTW, I have already quoted this to Thomas in Message 16241426 . He's just impervious to any facts that don't line up with his view of history. Of course, it wasn't just Nasser. In the build-up to the six day war, as about 180,000 Arab troops massed on Israel's borders, every Arab state-controlled media outlet (which is to say, all of them) promised annihilation to the Jews and the destruction of Israel. The Arabs are very fond of over the top rhetoric. This is true in all situations but goes double in war. But now, people like Thomas walk around freely denying facts of history, or coyly obfuscating them and demanding that the Zionists prove them all over again. Maybe he'll say, it was just rhetoric, it doesn't count. Let's look at things another way. In 1982, Hafez al Assad of Syria put down an Islamic rebellion in the Syrian town of Hama. To make sure of having no further trouble, he levelled half the town with artillery, killing an estimated 20,000 - 25,000 of his own citizens, and paved over the rubble as a reminder to potential troublemakers. If this is the way Arab rules treat their own citizens, do you really think his son would be any gentler if he ever got his hands on Tel Aviv?
