You're right. There's always going to be a more powerful weapon.

And I want to make sure my country is the one to have it. If Nazi Germany had gotten the atomic bomb first, where do you think the world would be?

You wrote war has become obsolete because it is suicide for the human race.

I'm not sure what world you're living in, but it's not the one I'm living in. I don't know how many wars are right now being fought around the globe, but it's a bunch. It would be nice to think war could ever become obsolete, and when I was quite young I truly believed in that as a goal. But while the reduction of war is still a realistic and vital goal, the elimination of it is not, and IMO will never become so. There will always be some leader, some country, which wants things it can't get except by war, and which thinks war is a reasonable way of getting them.

our options don't include force...

There has never been a civilized nation on earth which didn't rely on force in some form or other to remain civilized.

anyone who advocates war, force or violence as a
solution to human problems in this day and age is
not only suicidal, but also homicidal and genocidal.

The object of War is to disarm your enemy and exert your will. This is not to say that some countries practice genocide, but that is not war, it is murder. No, it will not solve "human" problems but it is still in use to arbitrate political problems.

You don't have to like it but war isn't going away despite anyone's opinion of it's obsolescence. As Plato said the only ones who avoid war are the dead.

We see, therefore, that War is not merely a political act, but also a real political instrument, a continuation of political commerce, a carrying out of the
same by other means.

Clausewitz

Oh, but our options do include force. Ask the Iraqis. Or the Taliban.

War can avoid being genocidal infact most wars are not genocidal. Many wars are senseless wastes of lives but if we renouce even defensive wars (including not just direct defence but responses to things like the invasion of Kuwait or 9/11) then we allow people like Sadam Hussien and Osama bin Laden to have their way.
