Jim, Oops, Carly at HP talking again:

Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina says she's more convinced than ever that H-P's merger with Compaq Computer will go through.

But in an interview Friday, she warned that, should it fail, H-P's vaunted printer and imaging businesses would be damaged and H-P might have to shut down its personal computer division.

Before, the word was that if the merger went through, HP would be the surviving brand. Whether that meant shutting down the Compaq PC line, I don't know, but I think probably not. Compaq's PC div. is the stronger of the two. Now, if the merger doesn't go through, the HP line might go. The obvious conclusion for the average Intel bigot is that Dell cleans up a lot from the mess either way. Times, they are a-changing.
