Why keep 2 P4 lines going? Keep the less expensive one, with the smaller die. Downbin some if you have to to get 1.6 GHz chips for eMachines and the like. This is a no brainer.

Coppermine went all the way from 733 MHz down to 500 MHz, even though Katmai went up to 600 MHz. The overlap in frequencies isn't unprecedented.

It'll take some time for Intel to fix the Northwood speed paths and work it up the speed scale.
