To anyone left on this board (I can't bring myself to post this message amidst the insane banter on Yahoo!):

I seem to recall that at some point Ampex had a significant stake in HDTV through a number of patents which, as usual, preceded the market's adaptation of this technology by many years. I have noticed that more and more audio-visual technologies, e.g. virtually all DVD players, are incorporating component video outputs on their hardware to take advantage of the HDTV inputs. I recently bought a JVC digital camera that even had component output capability. This suggests to me that the market may be much closer than it might appear to transitioning to this technology.

Does anyone know the extent of Ampex's involvement with HDTV and, if so, whether there may be any significant dollars to be made through licensing fees, etc. that might flow its way?

Still lurking, long and suffering AXC holder,

Doug
