Dan,

Why is INTC down after hours?

I wouldn't get too exciting about such a minor movement in stock price.

To me, the news for today is that the worst is over of the current semiconductor slowdown.

Joe

Gateway 700XL Wins PC Magazine's 'Editors' Choice' Award; New Gateway Desktop is Most Advanced PC Ever Sold in U.S.

January 15, 2002 12:35

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway, Inc. (NYSE: GTW) has received the prestigious "Editors' Choice" award from PC Magazine for its new Gateway 700XL, the most advanced desktop PC ever sold nationally.

"Gateway desktops have been attracting attention in the company's nationwide stores lately," PC Magazine stated in its review. "Consumers love the flat-panel LCDs that even the sub-$1,000 systems come with ... for the money you just can't get more P4 power than this, which is why it's our Editors' Choice."

On the market for just one week, the Gateway 700XL has been selling at a rate 10 times faster than the system it replaced.

The Gateway 700XL is bursting with high-end technologies: the all-new Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.20 GHz processor , an enormous 120GB hard drive, an expansive 18.1-inch (viewable) flat-panel display, a DVD-Rewritable drive, and 1GB of memory. It's also the first PC on the market with the new Hi-Speed USB 2.0 peripheral interface, providing data transfer speeds up to 40 times faster than USB 1.0.

"The response to our new 700XL has been incredible," said Mike Ritter, Gateway vice president. "This PC has immediately won the respect of influential editors and PC enthusiasts alike. It's an awesome system that includes the very best of everything: hardware, software, peripherals, the works."

Some feature highlights of the Gateway 700XL include:

* Intel Pentium 4 2.20 GHz processor -- the fastest CPU available.
* Massive 120GB hard drive -- the largest on the market, capable of
storing 100,000 minutes of music (about 25,000 songs), with 20GB of
disk space remaining for programs and files.
* DVD-Rewritable drive allows users to store 4,000 photos onto a single
DVD disc.
* Huge 18.1-inch (viewable) flat-panel LCD display -- a free upgrade from
Gateway for a limited time.
* Whopping 1GB of memory -- a free upgrade from Gateway for a limited
time.

The 700XL also features Gateway's Video:)Ware Advanced bundle to deliver an ideal digital video editing and production solution. The Gateway Video:)Ware(SM) Advanced solution bundle makes digital video editing and production hassle-free with an easy-to-read Getting Started Guide, MGI VideoWave 5.0 video editing software, connecting cables and training on digital video.

The Gateway 700XL is priced at $2,999. The system comes with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition and Microsoft Office XP Small Business. To help users get connected to the Internet quickly, the Gateway 700XL also comes with one year of America Online Internet access.

Closing quote on Island:

INTC LAST MATCH
Price 33.6000
Time 19:59:06
TODAY'S ACTIVITY
Orders 26,739
Volume 7,458,037

What's wrong with these people! Don't they want to pay $35 a share for a company that just reported almost 8 cents per share for its quarterly earnings?

Granted, it was the best quarter of the year, but it was a bad year, right?

So what if that's a P/E of 110, Q1 might not be so bad this year, right?

I wonder if Intel's big mistake was including X-Box sales in with the CPU market share numbers. It makes "Pentium" look like much more of a commodity. If an Intel Pentium CPU can be considered a game console, then maybe a Sony game console can substitute for a PC.
