your misconception that the usual taxes
No, yours was the misconception or attempted deception by implying that tax actions taken early in the country's history are not relevant because they aren't collected in exactly the same way that taxes are usually collected today.

As the country began, the dominate form of taxes was on commerce, especially import tarrifs. Then as now the actual form of the tax was based mostly on methods that could be reliably enforced and not on whether the activity was sinful. That distinction was a product of the temperance movement.

The fact is, the Federalist founding fathers, the ideological ancestors of the Republicans, felt that raising taxes to pay the debt was a good and prudent idea.

I believe property taxes are against the spirit of the Constitution and should be abolished. Because, unless you pay your taxes you actually never own your home or property.

That's not something I believe the framers ever envisioned.

My Grandmother was taxed out of her Maryland home after living their 50 years. My grandfather paid off the home and property before he died, but the taxes kept going up until she was forced to move to a small condo in Florida.

This is sociological stupid if you ask me. Stable families, who become a vital force to the local community should be encouraged to stay in their old age, not leave simply to feed the ever fatter wasteful government spenders.
