Tony, Re: "IDC forecasts that the McKinley version of Intel’s Itanium Processor Family (IPF) will provide approximately $500M of new revenues in 2002"

It's nice to see that McKinley is expected to contribute that much to revenue, even though it won't launch until the middle of the year. I'm sure Madison will help even more when it launches early next year. By the end of 2003, I'd like to see revenues due to Itanium increase to $2 billion for the year. That should help convince even the critics that Intel deserves their currently optimistic stock valuation.

Tony - Re: "IDC forecasts that the McKinley version of Intel’s Itanium Processor Family (IPF) will provide approximately $500M of new revenues in 2002, "

Is this $500,000,000 revenue to Intel for McKinley CPUs or $500,000,000 in SEVERS for server manufacturers?

If it is CPUs, that amounts to only 200,000 McKinley CPUs at an ASP of $2,500 - so the numbers are certainly doable.

If the "average" McKinley server is a 4-way, that amounts to 50,000 servers - a doable - but sizeable - number.

If IA64 revenues rise quickly to $500,000,000 and increase from there, Intel will recover its R & D expenses for ITanium development in just a few years - and the gravy train will be steaming down the track for years to come after that !

Tony,

IDC forecasts that the McKinley version of Intel’s Itanium Processor Family (IPF) will provide approximately $500M of new revenues in 2002

It seems that the quote sparked a level of curiosity in the Teletubbie camp. Do you think the Intel management will ever let you know what really happened, in their Q4 2002 earnings report?

BTW, the McKinley revenue seems very optimistic to me. Are they talking about revenue to Intel, for CPUs and chipsets, or revenue of the complete systems for boxmakers?

<edit> Nevermind, John Hull responded earlier </edit>

Despite the year-over-year decline in the server market, it remains a very attractive industry for those vendors that can execute on their supply-chain logistics

What was it that you were predicted on this thread about the server growth? 20+ % per year for Intel? I guess Intel will have to grow server revenue by more than 44% to catch up with that trendline.
