the author did not mention that the kamikaze program lasted less than a year(7 or eight months)...japanese today believe the program was ill-conceived.


The reasons I have heard for the failure of the kamikaze program to be really effective were: a) it wasted expensive equipment--planes and pilots (even green ones need training), and b) it lacked a feedback loop to correct operational mistakes.

Sadly, Hamas et. al. seem to have overcome these problems. Their equipment is cheap, and the results are so well reported that a full post-mortem of each event can be done.
