SUNW definitely has to rethink their strategy. Proprietary Unix'es will be history or a niche market in not too many years.

Despite all the old gear, SUNW has an entirely new product line based on the US III chip. The old equipment will not necessarily prevent big purchases of the new stuff since there are new demands by new users that include governmental and DOD, biopharmicology users who are doing genetic code work. Also the telecom industry will be the last to come back but will come back with G3 and other gPS technologies to extend these modalities to a greater number of people.

Inventories are reduced to almost "Dell Like" models, They are building in "just-in-time" fashion so the Enron cheap old hardware will not only fail to hurt Sun Micro, but it will create a greater market share of their software in the proliferation of Sun branded equipment.

I do see the need for McNealy and Co to re-invent the company, but the layoffs were not severe and the didn't cut into the "muscle of the company".

I see the stock price moving to the mid twenties in a year,
