What do you think of the research comparing cancer rates between Asians (in Asia) and Americans based on diet? Asians have something like 10% the rate of prostate cancer and breast cancer compared to Americans -- that is what claimed.

>> i took issue with the fact that supplementing saturated fat was better than monounsaturated fat given the fact that the protein (meat) in one's diet already contains saturated fat. <<

supplementing? where have you ever heard of saturated fat supplements? you have to be reasonable. we are talking about saturated fat contained in your diet. there is nothing wrong with it. of course there is nothing wrong with muf as well so you should eat a lot of that as well, from fish, nuts, leafy greens, etc.

>> i supplement my diet with monounsaturated fat b/c there is evidence it reduces heart disease. <<

what do you mean you supplement it. you take an oil supplement of some sort?

>> my goal is to eat a protein adequate, carbohydrate adequate... <<

by saying carbohydrate adequate you imply that we need a certain level of carbohydrate, like we do for protein and fat. we really don't. we need certain amino acids. they are essential. we need certain fatty acids, they are essential. we do not need carbs. i tolerate carbs, for various reasons, but they are not essential to human health. there is a difference. like i said, without certain essential amino acids and certain fatty acids you will die. without carbs you can live just fine. so technically zero carbs could be adequate to sustain human life, although it's almost impossible to completely avoid carbs.

>> the zone wasn't designed to be the best weight loss program on the planet. <<

agreed.

>> it was designed to be a healthy diet that automatically leads to weight loss in most overweight individuals (the body is quite complex and one size diet might not fit all). <<

i'm sure it does lead to weight loss simply due to removing refined carbohydrates and sugar from the diet. but the diet has some drawbacks in my opinion, even though it's on the right track.

>> there is no doubt carbohydrates are the most abused drug in america. <<

then how come our govt recommends 6-11 servings of grains a day? how come everywhere you turn fat is vilified when people should be saying flour and sugar are the true villains?
