gst, i don't think we can rule out exercise. exercise leads to significant biochemical effects in the body.

that being said, i'd be interested in the data. what is so special about their diets? % of calaories from fats? what kind of fats are they eating and in what proportion?

>> I think we can safely rule out exercise and clean water <<

better not. more exercise is clearly a factor.

>> The research done recently seems to point to diet in genral and the type of fats we eat in particular <<

yes, we eat trans-fats. they are poisonous. the reason people eat trans-fats is because they have been hoodwinked and brainwashed into believing that saturated animal fats are bad. most asians eat whole foods, not processed garbage with chemicals that can sit on a shelf for a year. they also drink water or tea. we drink soda pop and fruit juice loaded with 10 teaspoons of sugar per can.

>> It also seems that cancer rates in Asia are going up as their diet comes to reflect some aspects of our fat intake <<

it's not the amount of fat intake. it's deadly trans-fats and sugar intake. you and everyone else have been brainwashed into looking to total fat intake or saturated fat intake for the reason. hogwash.

simple logic:

the french eat twice as much fat as americans. much of it creams and cheeses (twice as much) which contain a lot of saturated fat. the french eat four times as much butter as we do which is 2/3 saturated. they consume relatively similar amounts of meat and fish. yet the french live much longer and healthier lifespans than we do. the french have less than half the heart disease and blood pressure problems we americans have.

so what is the difference between the french and americans? we eat six times as much sugar as they do.

yet people somehow find a way to complicate such a simple matter...
