BTW, I calculated the efficiency of the Iowa Thin Film solar collector to be ~4%. That's roughly 3.5 Watts per square foot, full sun. I wonder what a 1000 square foot roof collector would cost to give 3.5 kW under the best conditions... I costs me under $2 a day to get that for 8 hours from our local utility. So that's ~$700 a year. I doubt those plastic collectors would last 10 years, but if they did they would have to be cheaper than $7k complete for me to go through the hassle.
