>> i'm curious as to why you would say this. do you really think 60 grams of protein will cause cancer in someone with 120 lbs of lean body mass and sedentary? the rda for this person, assuming 20% bodyfat, is about 54 grams. 60 causes cancer, but 54 doesn't? ;-) <<

you are being disingenuous. the difference between the zone and the typical pyramid diet is not 6 grams or the difference between 54 and 60 grams a day. using the typical figure of a 2000 calorie diet, and the zone's recommendation of 30% protein, that would equate to 600 calories a day from protein. 4 calories to the gram, so that is more like 150 grams of protein per day. to eat a diet containing 60 grams of protein while maintaining the 30% ratio from protein would imply an 800 calorie diet. something doesn't add up.

anyway i don't see why you let people bully you into backing away from your position, which is correct. the people that try to say that increased protein is carcinogenic are ignorant and brainwashed.

>> or do you have the zone confused with protein / fat gluttony espoused by atkins? <<

yet again you just can't tell the truth and represent people's views fairly. you keep insinuating that atkins advocates gluttony. in all the literature i have read on dr atkins (obviously a whole hell of a lot more than you) i have never once heard him advocate gluttony. he says over and over, eat until you feel full or satisfied. i don't see how eating nutrient dense, healthy, sustaining food when your body is signaling hunger is gluttony. that sounds like common sense to me.

>> the zone gets lumped in with "high protein" diets and it just baffles me <<

well if the typical propaganda spewed by the government and the mainstream diet industry advocates 10-15% of your calories come from protein, and mr sears advocates more than twice that amount, it seems pretty obvious to me why people call it a high-protein diet. now they are wrong, it's more like a protein adequate diet and the rest are protein inadequate, but it's all just semantics.
