Earlie,
Yes Levitt had integrity and guts, but even he was backed off by the accounting lobby. And now any progress he made at the SEC is being threatened by having that lap-dog Pitt as a chairman. He will do everything he can to undermine enforcement of existing securities laws, let alone propose new oversight (other than the "voluntary" kind which has gotten us into this mess in the first place). Congress needs to run his backside out of the Enron/Anderson investigation because of conflict of interest.
Glad to see you're back,
Thanks,
/Kit

Earlie,
<<I think Art Levitt made a difference and started to put both some smarts and back bone into the organization.>>
Agree with you on this fact, however HE did not stay long enough as he was suffled out quite quickly <G>. And as such, I cannot understand why someone who wants to make a name for themselves as an investigative reporter (or maintain their creditability as one, ie: Brian Williams or Ted Kople-ABC, some one on 60 Minutes) or better yet, some one in print (as the subject is quite complex for a short blurb on the tub).
The one drawback however is the retention of the public's interest in the subject (unless more companies get exposed like IBM, GE, etc.) and the public and pension funds continue to loose their $$. And hopefully, when the retired population realizes that they may have to find employment (maybe bagging groceries or sweeping the floors of McDonalds) enough pressure will put on congress and the media to put their nose to the grindstone and really expose, in Marvin Gaye's words, "What's Going On?".
Aaaahh, but hope does not spring eternal for this pessimist <G>
**OT**, thanks for the GPS info, I PM'd you last night and afterwards started to research them. Didn't realize how much can be done with them. Would you mind if I PM'd a bit more a little later?

Regards,
Bill
