As usual, in a contorted effort to point hate toward Bush and tax cuts. The Washington Post has mixed apples and oranges when looking at the data.

Let's look carefully at the article and its statements.

But the CBO forecast suggested that the government would have eked out a small surplus this year absent the president's tax cut.

Now let's look at the Democrats spin...

Democrats charged yesterday that Bush's tax cut is largely responsible for the startling long-run decline in what, only a year ago, appeared to be more than $5 trillion in surpluses.

Questions for the unenlightened.

1. Was a 5 trillion dollar surplus projected this year?

Of course not.

2. What budget surplus was projected?
3. What deficit is projected now?

When you've computed the difference. What percentage of the difference is due to tax cuts?

The answer: A very small percentage, the recession is predominentley responsible for the shortfall in revenue, and thus the deficit.

This leads to a few other interesting insights and questions?

A. The CBO forecast was wrong regarding growth this year.
B. They didn't anticipate a recession.
C. Tax revenues are strongly effected by growth in the economy.
D. Will the CBO forecast of trillions in deficit be right or wrong in the future?
E. What growth are they projecting to come up with their future figures?

That's the way a clear headed non spin oriented person should think about the issue. Not using inflammed rhetoric, outright lies, and distortion aimed specifically at an agenda.

Think for a change jttmab, stop spinning BS.

From the article you highlighted...

The surplus in the near-term has evaporated largely because the recession has lowered tax revenue and led to increased social services spending.

Yes, Dashle is a liar. Deal with it. LOL!
