>> this is patently false about the zone <<

you speak fallaciously about the atkins diet all the time. why are you so upset when the mainstream does the same to your zone?

>> a major point of the zone is to ALWAYS eat more carbos than protein (9C g to 7P g). <<

a ridiculous point no less. always make sure you eat more protein than carbs is better advice.

>> if carbos are eliminated then the diet would be one of starvation - no food whatsoever <<

ridiculous statement. even meat & eggs have trace amounts of carbohydrates. no one is talking about eating less than a gram of carbohydrates. atkins most strict regimen advocates 30 grams or less. no one advocates a 100% carbo-free diet and it's impossible to achieve. of course when you don't have the facts or knowledge to back up your assertions or counter mine, you resort to exaggerating the facts to help present your case. no one on a low-carbohydrate starves. they simply lose weight, feel better, nourish and heal their bodies.

>> it is paramount to slander <<

i could say the same thing about some of your postings.

>> the zone lowers ldl. period. the zone promotes vegetable and fruit consumption - but especially veggies. some folks may not eat them, but they aren't really following the guidelines of the zone. <<

everything in that paragraph you could say about the atkins diet as well. of course we all know where mr sears got the notion for the zone anyway so it's no surprise he has a lot of the same ideas as dr atkins. ;-)

>> i eat a lot of fruits, veggies and low fat dairy products on the zone. <<

eating low-fat dairy products is dumb. low-fat most often equals higher sugar (lactose). you'd be better off drinking whole milk, full-fat cottage cheese, cream cheese etc. on the extremely rare occasions i do drink milk i drink whole milk.

>> 2. limited food choices? you can eat ANYTHING on the zone (albeit, the quantities need to be adjusted). <<

that's why copycats like the zone and carb-addicts have a slightly different twist to sell more books than atkins. the carb-addicts let you have a reward meal every night and you just confirmed that sears says you can have ANYTHING as long as you moderate the intake.

i don't ever have to worry about portions on my diet, which is most similar to the atkins approach. all the food in my regular diet is nutritious and healthy for me so i don't need to worry about limiting my intake. now i don't eat 50 eggs a day because that would be awfully boring, but i don't avoid egg yolks or restrict my intake of eggs. i eat as many leafy greens, cruciferous veggies and nuts and seeds as i like. i eat as much meat, as i want; i don't have to worry about overeating meat, i would get sick of eating nothing but meat all day as well. so i have a salad to go with it or broccoli or some berries or something else. but i never have to go through all the gobbledygook crap that sears makes you go through. no more than 500 calories per meal. no more than 3 meals a day and possibly a snack or two, always keep the proportion of macronutrients equal 40/30/30 etc. it's all a bunch of complicated hullalaboo. if you eat a variety of totally healthful foods you can eat whenever you desire and in whatever quanity is necessary to satiate yourself. that's all there is to it. my diet isn't about restriction of portions. the food i eat is so nutrient dense and so nutritious that i eat as much of it as i like.

>> dr sears point is that it requires a balance between carbos and protein in order to control insulin levels <<

hogwash. your insulin levels will be just fine avoiding carbs and eating protein and fat exclusively.

>> he also argue excessive protein or calories will throw the insulin balance out of whack. seems consistent here. <<

what a crock. eating excess carbohydrates, especially starchy or refined carbohydrates is the surest way to spike your insulin levels.

>> in addition, this statement is hard to decipher b/c the zone is moderate while the other diets are radical. <<

what you mean to say is that the zone wants to sell more books so they don't want to challenge the mainstream diet and medical community with the proper advice. so they toe the line on saturated fat and low-fat stuff so they won't get attacked as...how did you put it? "radical". i'm sure dr sears with his "moderate" approach which says you can eat ANYTHING is comforting to people who just can't give up their favorite foods. i'm sure it helps book sales and provides that slight distinction necessary to avoid looking like an atkins copycat.

"Without carbohydrates, the diets often create a condition called ketosis, which serves to curb appetite"

and this is a bad thing? curbing your appetite is a great way to stop overeating, and hence lose weight.

>> the zone is designed to avoid ketosis. period. <<

that's too bad. ketosis is such a wonderful thing for overweight people.

>> i have tons MORE energy on the zone as do many folks who submitted testimonials as did the person who recommended this diet to me. i CRASH as soon as i eat too many carbos. CRASH. <<

oh you crash when you eat carbos eh? well try eating 20% carbos instead of 40% and perhaps you will feel even better! ha ha ha.

>> salad, broccoli, apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, celery, etc. get devoured by me. my diet is much better now than my non-diet before. <<

you devour bananas all day huh? you are devouring about 6 or 7 teaspoons of sugar in each one. whatever works, right!?

>> 4. i don't go into a state of ketosis (except possibly while sleeping). <<

oh, so now it's ok to be in ketosis while you're sleeping! what happened to ketosis can KILL you???

I just want something mind altering, not mood controlling (but probably not the diet that impristine is on) <gg>
