Petz: I haven't seen many software acquisitions by Intel. Why not?

Oh, I forgot, I guess they did wind up acquiring the Compaq compiler group, but it seems like there should be more.

The Alpha compiler guys were arguably the best at doing compilers. Getting that division could turn out to be extremely valuable to Intel.

As for additional acquisitions, Intel wouldn't necessarily have to buy entire divisions / companies. They could just lure away the most valuable candidates from various appropriate projects.
