of course i happen to think i am far superior to the average listener when it comes to spotting artifacts, but i suspect that is because i have highly trained myself to lookout for them. i have encoded thousands of mp3s myself at different bitrates with numerous different encoders and have conducted thousands of listening tests.

We're sort of full of ourselves, aren't we?

I know for sure that my hearing isn't the same as 35 years ago when I bought my first top tier stereo, and I probably can't key-in to the tenor fourth from the right in LvB's 9th, or the fourth harmonic of the triangle in Mahlers 1st.

However I hear dynamics and nuances in Peaceful Easy Feeling and Monster Mash that I never got from vinyl!
