Intel will produce .18µm P4s for quite a while and they will have to, as well.

Remember, Willy is quite a bit larger than the PIII chips it is supplanting. Even the .13µm Northwood is significantly larger.

There's also the question of what Intel wants to "spend" its .13µm production capacity on. Right now, Intel is facing more pressure on the mobile front than anywhere else. Therefore, it makes sense to use a sizeable portion of the available .13µm capacity on mobile chips (whether PIII or P4).

The conclusion remains: It just doesn't make economic sense for Intel to quickly ramp the frequency of Northwood. And when they don't do it, it shouldn't be mistaken for a case of Intel being unable to do it, as I'm sure some on this thread would be prone to do.
