"President Truman told his diary that he had ordered the bomb dropped on a "purely military" target, so that
"military objectives and soldiers and sailors are the target and not women and children."

The site you referred actually says this:

"Emphasis has been added to highlight Truman's apparent belief that he had ordered the bomb dropped on a "purely military" target, so that "military objectives and soldiers and sailors are the target and not women and children.""

and...

"I have told the Sec. of War, Mr. Stimson, to use it so that military objectives and soldiers and sailors are the target and not women and children"

Was his belief "apparent" or "real"? Was he absolutely ignotrant of ther facts and being manipulated...or was he writing for posterity?

"It was to spare the Japanese people from utter destruction that the ultimatum of July 26 was issued at Potsdam. Their leaders promptly rejected that ultimatum."

"they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this earth.

So the ulternative was the "ULTIMATUM" or "UTTER DESTRUCTION"!! Life is full of difficult choices!

"The Emporer: "Execute him 33%""

Only 3% agreed with the Government choice. What kind of a democratic republic is that?!--LOL!!

"The world will note that the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, a military base."

The site you referred actually says this:

"In a radio speech to the nation on August 9, 1945, President Truman called Hiroshima "a military base." It seems likely, considering his July 25 diary entry, that he was not aware that Hiroshima was a city. Otherwise, he was being untruthful about the nature of the target."

It was not a military base, Lazarus!!
