It is easier to respect the role something played in lives long dead, that it is to respect a current religion that is not respectful of others. Most current religions have something nasty or denigrating to say on the subject of people who do not believe - so it is rather difficult to give respect along a one way channel. If you know what I mean.

Exactly, Bill. You've done a good job of praphrasing what I just said.

Actually, I brought some BOTD info here, a way back when, to show how the moral sentiments of justice, kindness, devotion, etc. have always existed independently of Christianity. They had very refined "rules" of morality.
