This article and poll demonstrates how radically far left the people on this thread who despise Bush are. It's actually quite astonishing to think SI is full of such extreme partisan hate filled leftists.

Explains a lot of things though....

Prez ratings boost Pataki hopes

When Democrat Al Gore romped over Republican George W. Bush in New York's 2000 presidential election by more than 1 million votes, Gov. Pataki had reason to worry as he looked toward a third term.

Now, President Bush, flying high in a new statewide poll, can no longer be viewed as the Republican governor's Achilles' heel.

Bush's job approval rating among New Yorkers stands at 80%, the Quinnipiac University poll found.

In New York City, where Democrats outnumber Republicans 5 to 1, Bush scored a 73% approval rating.

The President was most popular in the suburbs, where 86% of voters said they liked the job he's doing.

Pataki Fund-Raiser

Quinnipiac pollster Maurice Carroll said Bush's popularity, sparked by his performance since Sept. 11, can only help Pataki, who faces a challenge this year from one of two Democrats — state Controller Carl McCall or former Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo, son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo.

"Now you have Bush coming to New York to do a fund-raiser for Pataki at the home of Mayor Bloomberg," Carroll said. "It's a trifecta."

In April, Bush's job approval rating in New York was 50%.

"President Bush stood with New York at the earliest moments at a time of great crisis, and all New Yorkers certainly appreciate it," said Pataki spokesman Mike McKeon.

Slow Economy

But Democratic strategists said that Bush's popularity inevitably will begin to erode — a casualty of the slow economy — and Pataki's fortunes will fall off as well.

The governor's job approval rating hit 70% in a Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday. He also held a more than 2-to-1 lead over Cuomo and McCall.

The latest poll of 893 registered voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

It must be said that I do know a number of liberally persuaded folks and most of them I get along with just fine. In fact it is by talking with these folks I get to looki inside the liberal mind and see what they are thinking. I enjoy these hospitable conversations because it both tests my own thinking and gives them a chance to rethink many assumptions that they had taken as sacrosanct before.

A basic human thought is "Things would be better for everyone if only we'd all.....". Liberals tend to be dreamers. They have many ideas that, were they workable, might indeed make life better. However, when faced with the practical side, the reality that "the plan does not work", they see opposition to be based on some sort of mean spiritedness (which may also be present).

The extreme liberals are just that, extreme, and in their selfcentered minds thay see themselves as protectors of all that is right and just, defenders of the dream. They are justified in their behavior because they are rightous in their defense of the dream. In this way they are the mirror image of that which they hate the most, the religious right zealot.

This is why facts are inconsequential to them. If the facts don't square with the dream, ignore the facts. It is "The Dream" that reigns supreme.
