Besides, if Intel were to push mobile Tualatin to 1.5GHz, that would sorta make their mobile P4 pointless, now wouldn't it? From what I have seen, Intel plans on pushing the mobile P4 all the way to 2GHz. And that would put it barely out of the reach of a 1.5GHz Tualatin. And the Tualatin would likely draw less power, to boot.

Well, it would also draw less power to run, also.

Don't think so. Tualatin performance will be severely limited by 100 or 133 MHz bus, so I expect an A4 1333 MHz (a.k.a. 1500+) would be it's equal.

Pairing the A4 1500+ with DDR or making it's bus speed 133*2 are also possibilities for AMD.


I disagree. P3 is about equal to Athlon in performance at the same clock speed. P3 Tualatin now has extra 256 L2, I think there was some tweak with prefetching, which is extra.

Regarding FSB, I think that all A4 notebook sold so far were SDR SDRAM, not DDR, so the higher FSB bandwidth of A4 is not going to help if memory is the bottleneck.

The good thing is that even though Tualatin can probably make it to 1.5 GHz as a desktop, it is unlikely to get there as a notebook chip.
