That's just not true. When absolute performance began to lag, so did sales. Until then PR ratings were spectacularly successful, letting Cyrix become the number 2 Computer chip maker. Look at where Cyrix was in performance and market share during 1997. Later Intel (and AMD) pulled ahead of the PR rated chips in performance. Until then, Cyrix did very well.

Dave,

I was at Fry's in Sunnyvale this weekend and saw a Cyrix based PC. Where in the he-2 sticks are they coming from? More important, who'd buy it? At a glance, seem to be more Celerons, for both notebooks and desktops on display, along with the PIIIs and PIIIMs, and P4s. AMD based PCs continue to be almost a no-show.
