Hi Raymond Duray; Re: "That's what will end the American Empire, its own hypocrisy and hubris." Oh! You mean that our "Empire" can last forever providing we get rid of the hubris and hypocrisy? I guess there's lots of historical examples of successful Empires that lasted thousands (the US has already lasted hundreds) of years by sticking to truth and avoiding acting like a bully.

Re: "Enron is just a harbinger of things to come." Wow! I hadn't realized that the history of every stock market on the planet wasn't replete with stories of bad accounting since stock markets were invented 400 years ago! Amazing that all of a sudden we've figured out a way to separate greedy investors from their money! No one else ever did this ever before! Maybe you should read this:

Re: "You are looking at the tree and not the forest of deception surrounding you." Sure enough, the US invented deception too! Before 1776 governments were perfectly honest with their citizens, and with their foreign relations. Heck, they still are, except for the US.

Good old Raymond, surrounded by a forest of deception.

You are looking at the tree and not the forest of deception surrounding you.<<

Naw, Molly & I go way back. As to the forest of deception, I try to keep the fir outa my eyes and stay mad about yew. I too pine for a time when truth was simple, and it was easy to spot the bad guys at the Oak-A Corral.

I have no doubt that the Holocaust happened, but the details get blurry after that, because of secrecy and lies.
I'm not lulled into the false sense that Uncle Sam is telling the truth when he's been inta the cooking sherry agin.

But Molly sometimes sees 'pure bonehead' when I see someone studying 'The Prince' on Cliff notes. And whether someone views the US as a shrewd 600-lb gorilla or a drunken 600-lb gorilla, I think they're still far more cautious at its approach than when they thought it was a big monkey.
