Eastern Oregon had a gold rush beginning in 1861

Although I can't think of any substantial commerical mines,
Oregon has a very strong/active recreational mining community.

I personally know the joint owner of several of the mothballed mines mentioned in this particular archive and am on daily speaking terms with the current mine superintendent of same:
