we're both headed in the same direction.
I'd agree with that.

What the heck are you laughing about?
Similar experiences.

Research suggests cheating is rampant on campus. In a 1999 Rutgers University survey of 2,100 college students, about 33 percent said they had cheated on exams, and 50 percent said they had cheated on assignments.
I've seen numbers like that before and always had trouble believing them. I never cheated in school. You're really cheating yourself.
I hope those numbers are exaggerated. And I suspect they're not. Because people would be reticent to admit to such things and if anything the real numbers should be HIGHER!

When the students do poorly, we blame everybody but the students.
True. All too true. Ultimately the fire must come from the kid. Others can provide fuel and help light it, but ultimately they must DO.

And yet... Ever notice how Asian kids do so well in US schools? To the point where many selective high schools and universities effectively have upper limits on the number of them allowed in. They're unlikely to be smarter overall. They are pushed and praised for academic achievement though.
And it only seems to work for one or two generations. Then the kids and parents are too Americanized and fall in with the pack.
