WBW, Is volume and capital really Intel's last advantage? YES!!!!

I would have to say yes to that :-) Let's see the list of other more important advantages that Intel has:

1. Process technology innovation
2. Design innovation
3. Awesome marketing
4. Management smarts
5. Efficient use of capital
6. Manufacturing stength (arguably related to volume)

The list goes on with volume/capital at the bottom.

I am glad that Jerry is content killing off Intel's last advantage with a fab coming online in 2005. First, Motorola, now UMC. How many semiconductor operations does he want to destroy?

Beamer, another Jerryism from today, from an analyst's question. The guy asked something like "with the 0.13 and copper problems, why UMC, why not TSMC"? Jerry thought the guy was saying that AMD had those problems and he lit into him like Carl's raccoons into his garbage cans. We have no 0.13 problems, we're in full production, rant, rave, scream, yell. The poor guy meekly interrupted, somehow, saying no, no, UMC has problems at 0.13. Jerry said, well, have to let the UMC CEO speak to that. Don't know what he said. There have been reports of UMC's weakness so far at 0.13.
