American Power Conversion and NEC Computers Expand Their Strategic Relationship to Offer Enterprise Customers Continuous Availability Networking biz.yahoo.com WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Power Conversion (Nasdaq: APCC), a global leader in end-to-end availability enhancement solutions, and NEC Computers Inc., a leading provider of mobile, desktop and server computing, today announced they will expand their current alliance. Under terms of the agreement, APC uninterruptible power products will be an option with the entire new line of NEC Computers' Express5800/ft fault tolerant servers. This product offering is designed to provide NEC Express5800/ft customers with a simplified high availability solution that gives users continuous processing capabilities, even in the event of a power outage or server hardware failure. ``Users of NEC Computers' fault tolerant servers demand continuous processing power, designed for 24x7,'' said Ed Bednarcik, vice president and general manager of APC's Business Networks Solutions Group. ``Since we developed the Power Array technology to maximize availability, Symmetra is an ideal power solution for customers such as NEC Computers'.'' Beginning immediately, APC's Symmetra RM (6kVA) uninterruptible power device, along with APC's Web/SNMP Power Management SmartSlot Card will be offered as an option with NEC Express5800 fault tolerant servers. The Symmetra RM's architecture is similar to the design of RAID (redundant array of independent drives) technology that offers complete redundancy for every critical component of the storage system. The design consists of a rack-mount frame with slots that house both electronics and battery modules which operate in unison to provide consistent, clean power the NEC Express5800 fault tolerant servers. If any single power module fails, the others seamlessly pick up the power load while maintaining an uninterrupted source of clean AC power to the NEC Express5800/ft servers. In addtion to providing NEC Express5800/ft users with continuous AC power, the Symmetra RM includes an APC Web/SNMP Management Card, which enables users to monitor all AC-power related parameters, receive email alerts (e.g. for a weak battery module), and view the power event log from any location. ``APC's products are well-suited for the continuous processing needs of our fault tolerant server users.
