Sun Microsystems (SUNW) 10.37 -0.39: Merrill Lynch said that recent comments by ORCL's Larry Ellison give cause for concern about SUNW's high-margin Unix server mkt; ORCL is replacing 3 Unix servers running bulk of apps to a cluster of INTC servers running Linux; concern is that SUNW's Unix biz will be attacked from below by INTC servers running NT or Linux (particularly Linux, as it's easier to learn than the Solaris operating system). JP Morgan defended SUNW and reiterated its Long-Term Buy rating; despite the co's reluctance to discuss long-term visibility, firm believes that next week's analyst meeting will confirm that the UltraSparc product is ramping.

These gold lovers are finally getting their time in the sun after a 20 year bear market.

Since the world is not on the gold standard , gold should be treated as a commodity whose prices go up based on demand and supply. What will increase the demand for gold other than momentum traders buying gold simply because it is going up ? In a recession I can hardly see people buying more gold jewelry. The only way I see gold going up is if people were to lose confidence in the world currencies. I
suppose that could happen if we have companies like JPM
or AXP or C going the enron route, but that seems unlikely.
But hey nothing surprises me anymore about this market.
